High School Forest Hills H. S.Rick is a 1997 graduate of Forest Hills High School. Rick started all four years of his high school career. During Rick’s senior year he helped lead the Rangers to a 20-2 record. He was 8-1 with 112 strikeouts in only 59 innings. He also led the team in batting average (.476), doubles (16), RBI’s (37), and he only struck out once in 82 at bats. In 1996 Rick was the Johnstown AAABA League’s recipient of the Bill Jenkins Rookie of the Year Award and the Vuckovich Pitching Award. Rick was a member of the Johnstown AAABA League Championship Team, Principal Development. Rick, along with his teammates, represented Johnstown in the 1996 National AAABA Tournament. Rick was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 1997 Amateur Baseball Draft. He played two seasons before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 2002, Rick led the AA Jacksonville Suns in winning percentage and also led all Southern League relievers in total innings pitched. He was 8-2, allowed only 66 hits in 87 2/3 innings, and struck out 85. Rick began the 2003 season as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers 40-Man Major League Roster. Unfortunately, at the height of his career, Rick received a shoulder injury that would require two surgeries and would eventually end his professional career. During Rick’s training with the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers he was fortunate to be instructed by many of baseball’s best. Rick’s professional training included instruction by John Matlack, Maury Wills, Tommy LaSorda, Rick Honeycutt, Sandy Koufax, Allan Trammel, and many others. In 2005 Rick began his coaching career with the Richland Rams. Following their 19-2 season, Rick left the Rams to join the coaching staff at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. During Rick’s first season with UPJ, the Mountain Cats set the record for most wins in a season. They comprised a record of 33-18 which gave them a berth in the 2006 NCAA North Atlantic Region Tournament, a first in team history. Rick is the Manager of the AAABA League Delweld Franchise. For the last eight years Rick has dedicated himself to providing area youth with the proper fundamentals and mechanics of baseball. In 2000, Rick created Roberts Pro Baseball School with the aspiration that he could give young ball players the opportunity to increase their skills and lower their risk of serious injury. In 2007 Rick and Mike Holtz joined forces and created E.R.A. Sports, Inc. Together they share the same goal for each of their students; to get the most out of their ability.
